What is Barre Basics?
Barre Basics is a total body workout designed to tone, tighten, and sculpt the entire body. The workout is a combination of standing exercises performed atthe ballet barre, Pilates-based floor workonmats, and stretching with short intervals of non-impact cardio throughout the workout. The workout uses precise isometric movements to focus on small muscle groups that are often ignored. Utilizing these muscles is essential for creating a toned, feminine physique. Yes, this workout is for ladies only!

How is Barre Basics different from a franchise barre studio?
Barre Basics offers a traditional barre workout with a twist. Our barre class includes small bursts of non-impact cardio throughout class in order to provide participants with a greater calorie burn during their hour. Each class is limited to 15 participants in order to provide clients with a high-quality workout with attention to form and proper alignment. We also offer a unique barre class called “HIIT the Barre”, which is designed for our clients who want a more intense fat burn to accompany their barre workout. Barre Basics is located within a fully-equipped gym, and all members have access to this facility as part of their membership*.

Jenny Shipley CPT, Licensed Barre Instructor
Jenny Shipley is a certified personal trainer that has been working in the fitness industry in the El Dorado Hills area for the past five years. Over the years she has trained both individuals and small groups, as well as run boot camp classes, women’s weight training classes, and group exercise classes. She is a certified fitness nutrition coach and enjoys helping people understand the connection between regular exercise routines and healthy eating habits.
One of Jenny’s great passions in fitness is the barre workout. After being introduced to barre fitness several years ago, Jenny was immediately hooked on this exercise method. She completed many hours of private instruction from a Pilates/Barre instructor in the Bay Area and began practicing the method in her own training. One of Jenny’s most recent accomplishments is becoming a certified, licensed MIXT Barre instructor, where she completed an intense training program under master instructor Nancy Norby. Nancy was originally trained in New York in the 1970’s by Lydia Bach, who is the founder of the Lotte Berk method, which is the original barre workout. Nancy subsequently opened the very first Lotte Berk Method Studio on the West Coast in 1980’s. Training with Nancy provided Jenny with a solid education and understanding of the core roots of the barre workout. The MIXT Barre program provided knowledge and education on implementing non-impact style cardio elements into the traditional barre class. Jenny is now a licensed Mixt Barre Instructor with Sue Harrigan, owner of The Body Bar(re).
In January 2012, Jenny began running barre classes in a small studio within Full Throttle Fitness. With growth and excitement surrounding the program, it expanded into a full-size studio and comprehensive program in September 2012. Jenny has combined her experience and knowledge as both a personal trainer and group fitness instructor, with her barre instructor training to create a truly unique and effective program for clients.
Barre Basics class formats include the traditional barre format with the added bonus of small intervals of non-impact cardio, as well as HIIT the Barre, a class format Jenny created for clients who want the toning and lengthening results of barre combined with the fat burn results of High Intensity Interval Training.
